The needs of each rat are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the rat you are interested in, please let us know in your inquiry! We are happy to provide guidance and advice. Rats should never be housed with other animals, each species should always have its own housing. Preferably the shelter includes multiple levels, with appropriate use of linens or paper bedding and lots of rat appropriate toys. The minimum cage size should be 2’x2.5’x2’, with good ventilation (no glass enclosures) and must have a solid base. We recommend providing a safe indoor enclosure that allows the rat plenty of space to exercise.
